June 21 every year is Global ALS Awareness Day, a day of recognition of ALS/MND - a disease that affects people in every country around the globe. The article highlights ALS researchers and the Serika fund that support them. Dr Hatano was one of the 5th Serika Fund awardees in 2021.
▶ The Serika Fund
The Serika Fund is to encourage researchers to discover treatments and a cure for ALS. The fund is named after Serika, a character of a Japanese comic series "Space Brothers", who lost her father to ALS.
