In the lecture with an audience of about 100 people, Prof Ikeuchi talked about the new Alzheimer's disease drug aducanumab, which is targeted at an underlying, fundamental, and defining pathophysiological feature of the disease, with the potential to alter the inescapable and relentless progression of this disease. He also referred to issues and risks of the new drug, presenting other Alzheimer's drug candidates that are in trials. He said: "It is important that we work on a society to provide care and support for all those affected by dementia. One of our goals is to develop new drugs that will help stabilize the symptoms and allow people affected by dementia to spend more quality time with their loved ones."
