BRI presents brain science lectures and hands-on explorations at N-Step Niigata Program
On November 4, 2024, BRI delivered lectures as part of the Nurturing Scientists Training and Education Program, "N-Step Niigata" - a STEM education initiative for junior high school students.
Since FY2019, Niigata University has hosted the Niigata Junior Doctor Training School, with a total of 242 students participating through FY2023. In recognition of these efforts, Niigata University was awarded a grant from the Nakatani Foundation's Science Education Promotion program, which supports the launch of the N-Step Niigata Program, set to run from FY2024 through FY2028.
The 13th session of the program, held at BRI, welcomed 23 junior high school students and their parents. Participants attended lectures by Professor Kazuki Tainaka (Dept of System Pathology for Neurological Disorders) titled "Exploring the Universe Inside the Brain" and "The Brain, Mind, Myself, and Consciousness." Following the lectures, students had the unique opportunity to examine mouse brain specimens and observe a fish brain in detail using VR headsets.
We hope that the enthusiasm and creativity of these young students will serve as a catalyst for building a brighter future.
