In the mountains, a beautiful view opens up only after you have made it through a hard climb. Beyond the experiments and the analysis there is a last climb too: writing the paper through to the end, sometimes facing tough peer review, and rethinking it as many times as it takes. Only after going through that process do we come to see what our research actually was.

In research there are people who lead, and people who support it with technique or analysis. Not everyone needs to play the same role. But for the stretch you have taken on yourself, if you compare the view you get after giving up halfway because it became hard with the view that comes afterward, getting off is not an option.
