The Olympics have begun

The Winter Olympics have begun. Against the long, quiet work of the athletes, the field meets tension and joy and grief in an instant. Only if you believed that results were everything does the path paradoxically become meaningful. I think our once-only life, and what we stake on this research, is close to what Olympians feel.
