In their words
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by natural sciences and aspired to be a scientist like Einstein or Fleming. I entered medicine to learn about the human body and disease, and eventually chose neurology, a field with many intractable diseases. I am now a researcher, but I spent a long time in serious clinical practice (5 years full-time, 4.5 years part-time). The patients and others I met there remain a second motivation. A third is to deepen both scientific and social understanding of developmental disorders in children.
